Donation Information

Like most non-profit organizations, Bluegrass Basset Rescue, Inc., relies on donations in order to care for the hounds we take in. Vet costs vary widely across the areas we cover—and we cover the state of Kentucky, parts of Middle Tennessee and parts of southern Ohio, Indiana and Illinois--- as well as others if called upon. Where do your donation dollars go? For starters, all incoming dogs must be vaccinated (rabies, DHLPP [Parvo/distemper, leptospirosis, etc..] and bordatella—kennel cough), altered, treated for fleas/ticks and various tests performed on them—fecal exam for intestinal worms, heartworm test, and any others related to their particular case (i.e., an EKG for a suspected enlarged heart, etc...) As in the case of some hounds, the vet care bill increases substantially if it is found that they have ailments such as ear infections, broken bones, issues with starvation/malnutrition, and more. If they’ve been exposed to kennel cough, that can develop into pneumonia if not caught early enough. Treatment for a heartworm positive dog can run $200-$400 depending on where the treatment is being administered. All dogs must have a collar or harness, a kennel crate (depending on the foster home), and be put on monthly heartworm and parasite preventative. All of this adds up. The adoption fee covers very little of the actual costs of caring for a rescued hound. We are very grateful for every penny we receive on behalf of the homeless bassets in the Bluegrass State! Donations can be mailed via check (mailed to our organization address) or thru PayPal --just click the PayPal Donate button on the left side!
